The Center For Sales Strategy broadly defines marketing as:
“the entire process by which a market is identified, developed and served.”

Marketing Does Not Equal Advertising.
Marketing is often thought to be just a fancy synonym for advertising, but marketing is so much more than advertising. Here are some other components, besides advertising, that fall under the marketing umbrella:
- Research
- Strategy
- Branding
- Creative
- Pricing
- Sales
- Customer Service
- Public Relations
All of these activities are marketing functions because they have a direct impact on the identification, development & service of the market (the customer). If any are conducted without serious attention given to a customer’s needs, the organization will fall short of its market potential.
